The Story

Meet the Hori Hori Pro by Niwaki, a serious bit of kit for gardeners who like their tools to earn their place.

Handmade exclusively for Niwaki by third-generation craftsmen in Miki, Hyogo, this is a Hori Hori with real pedigree. If you’re ever in doubt, look for the kanji-stamped Niwaki mark pressed into the blade.

Forged from SK-5 carbon steel, it’s sharper, stronger and more durable than your average digging knife.

The subtly profiled FSC beech handle feels reassuring and comfortable in your hand, shaped for proper, sustained use and comes complete with a sturdy canvas sheath for safe storage and quick access when you’re out and about doing jobs in the garden or allotment.

Overall size: 300mm
Blade length: 170mm
Steel: SK-5 carbon steel
Handle: FSC Beech
Includes: Canvas Sheath

And what jobs, exactly? Quite a few.

The Hori Hori Pro digs, weeds, plants, divides, drills seed rows, sets bulbs, scrapes pots, prises stones, slices through roots and tackles ivy without blinking. It’s one of those rare tools that quietly becomes everyone’s favourite.

Best usage

Your Hori Hori Pro will arrive with a light coating of protective varnish on the blade to guard against oxidation in transit. It may appear uneven and will naturally wear away with use, it's perfectly normal and doesn't affect use.

As with all carbon steel tools:

  • Clean and dry thoroughly after use
  • Apply a light coat of oil before storing
  • Keep sheathed when not in use

Important (UK guidance):

Under Section 1 of the Prevention of Crime Act 1953, it is an offence to carry a bladed tool in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse. This may include transporting tools directly to and from gardens, work or allotments.

We strongly advise transporting the Hori Hori Pro concealed, sheathed and out of sight, ideally inside a gardening bag or toolbox, not worn openly.
