The Story
This unique tea set includes the only maple tea and edible dried maple leaves made in Japan. Organically grown maple leaves are handpicked, then steamed and dried using the Mino Shirakawa tea-making process. This method is used to make highly prized green sencha tea, the Maple laboratory in Gifu prefecture has applied the same centuries old method to making maple tea. The result is a healthy polyphenol-rich but caffeine-free tea.
Maple leaf tea has a light, very slightly smoky flavour. Adding a little lemon or yuzu will cause the tea to turn a deep crimson colour. As a final touch, add the dried edible maple leaf, for a show stopping after dinner tea. For further variations add a little honey or maple syrup. Maple leaf tea and dried leaves can also be enjoyed iced or in a cocktail.
